Recent advances and reduced costs in unmanned aircraft systems and image processing software has made digital elevation models (DEMs) and aerial imagery more affordable and accessible. Since these datasets are often used for planning and design purposes, we must all be aware of the quality and accuracy of such datasets. In this presentation, we will discuss the accuracy and quality that can be achieved with such low-cost approaches as well as mistakes that are often made and how to avoid such pitfalls.
